THIS IS BEYOND GOOFY...

This is just crazy. Or maybe just plain out of the question.
As my fellow bloggers know, I am training for Ironman Florida 2006 (November 4.)
It appears we are going to spend the winter in Florida after that.
This means I will still be in the neighborhood for the Disney Marathon in January and the Gasparilla Distance Classic in February.

Not just the Disney Marathon itself and Gasparilla Distance Classic (marathon) itself but...

Dare I even THINK about IMFL (swim 2.4 miles, bike 112, run 26.2) in November, and the Goofy Challenge (run 13.1 miles on Saturday, 26.2 on Sunday) in January, and the Chrysler PT Cruiser Challenge (run 15K + 5K on Saturday, 26.2 on Sunday) in February?

Could a (by then) 55-year-old grandmother do that?

Or is that a recipe for disaster in the form of death or disability?

Or is it just Goofy?????

Yeah, sure you can do it. You're crazy but you can do it. Florida will have great training weather through much of the winter. Your body will have the endurance from the November IM.

Sounds like a Standard Operating Procedure to me. Might as well do them all, if you go to the trouble of training for one! But I don't want to hear you getting all convinced that you're totally detrained in a few weeks between events, because it won't happen!

That's if I don't take a month of sit-on-my-a$$ recovery like I did after Chesapeakeman...

You can do it.

Well, you CAN - you are capable, but whether or not it's a sensible thing to do?? Is any marathon sensible? Is Ironman sensible?

What the heck. You are the QUEEN of marathon undertraining. You'll be just fine.

Sure is an extra-ordinary race schedule, but then, aren't you the extra-ordinary grandma? :)

You will do more than fine, just make sure you get plenty of rest anf fluids in between. I wish I could do even one of those...

Goofy is as Goofy does, my momma used to say. ha! I vote Goofy, but what the heck do I know?

Sorry Ellie, this has got ABSOLUTELY no relevance with your post, but someone sent me this from the Darwin Awards (http://darwinawards.com/stupid/stupid2000-24.html) and I just HAD to share it with you...

When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find an ill man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

SICK!

I say GO GOOFY, E!!ie!
You KNOW you CAN!
YOU'D rock it!
As for PT Challenge - I'd say, hold off awhile. You can always rest on your laurels for that one. (You've been there, done that, after all. See how you feel AFTER Goofy. And I BET if you contacted the RD, they would allow you to register for the PT Challenge AFTER the official deadline. Beth missed the deadline last year, you know, and still got herself in!)

U are setting a high standard, ellie. Now we don't have reason for not pushing it :)

yea sure you can do that plus add the Tour de Cape century and the Naples Half Marathon both in January.

But what happened to the Master's Triathlon thing? Aren't you going to go get some hardware with them too?? :-)

You COULD do it, but I like Jeanne's idea about waiting to see how well/quickly you recover from IMFL before you sign up for the PT Challenge. It may even be that you'll recover faster than you did after Chesapeakeman, because your body might get used to living at this IM level of fitness.

As for Disney, oh yeah, go for THAT at least. Goofy as it is, it's definitely something you should do.
