PHOENIX BLOGGER GATHERING

What fun! Left-to-right: Kurt, Tammy, Ellie, Elizabeth. Yeah, Kurt is tall, but not that tall.... us gals were sitting down. We're all happy. Kurt, Tammy and I all finished the marathon (Tammy's first) and Elizabeth smoked the half. I'm not reporting times.... go to their blogs and hear their stories! Oh, yeah, I guess I could report mine: 4:45:10 from the start mat by my watch. I was really surprised, having figured on probably 5 hours if things went OK, 5:30 if they didn't.

I met up with a woman named Sue in the early miles and we ran the rest together, each of us pulling the other along at various times. She was running her first marathon just a couple months shy of her 60th birthday! It was something she wanted to to before she turned 60. She said early in the race that she hoped to finish. Afterwards she said she just might run the Lost Dutchman next month with me!!! Sue was awesome in her first marathon and I would have walked a lot more and run a lot slower without her. Especially right around the halfway mark, I went through a really bad stretch and thought, I better tell her to ditch me and go for it. But I took a couple Excedrin and an extra Succeed capsule and a calcium/magesium tablet (meant to take two but dropped one) and within half an hour I was feeling a lot better. For a while, anyway. :-) In the late miles we started getting ahead of and/or behind each other, and made a deal that whoever finished first would wait for the other. It turned out to be me after all. Sue came in about a minute and a half later and we hugged and clung to each other. It was just wonderful.

Anyway, seems like everyone had a great time, it did not rain, weather was super, and I am very, very happy.

Ellie, you did it! I knew you would pull this off and do much better than you thought. Just what is the magic of the Succeed tablets and calcium/magnesium??

Pace Angels abound everywhere. Linae had one in her Disney Half, too. I hope you and Susan are able to really enjoy some great training and racing time together. She sounds like an answer to prayer!

Great job, Ellie! And to Sue, too-- isn't it funny how we meet such inspiring people on the roads? I bet you were her inspiration, too!

An AWESOME time Ellie! And it was fantastic meeting you & Steve! Thanks for adding to my 'first marathon' experience :)

BTW, I lifted your group shot because it came out much cuter than the one on my camera.

Sounds like you had a fantastic run! I'm so bummed I didn't get to meet with with the RBFers in tow.

Guess that's what happens when ya take too long on the course. At least I wasn't swept up! :)
