AN "AHA!" MOMENT

I think I've figured it out.
It's about feedback.

I can't imagine how many emails I get in a day. I'm on about a dozen email lists, some with a hundred or more posts a day. And I do this blog thing. And I keep doing all of it more and more.

The more responses I get, via email or on my blog, the more successful I feel.
The more validated.
The more "noticed."
The more important.
The more liked.

Now the thing to work on is....
Why do I need so much feedback to believe I'm real?

Because humans are social creatures. We like interaction with conspecifics and sometimes other species. It's normal.

So.... what happened to those worthless mongrel puppies that Tramp sired, anyway?

Whoa... too deep for a Friday! My Tuesday evening class is Buddhist Psychology... this is exactly the kind of stuff we discuss :)

If it's any consolation, I feel exactly the same way.

Wait, so u are saying I ain't the only one in the office that refresh my blog 1000 times a day just to see my comments go up??

Ellie, you're so popular because your "YOU!"

P.S. I don't know why, I can't always "enter the letters as they are shown in the image."!

Linae is right on. And you are interacting online not in person. This is the only feedback you get when you 'talk'.

Wow, deep. Love the comparison - I've always loved that story! And it's perfectly FINE to feel this way (says me with lots of e-mail groups and a blog and a running group...) Why do you think the Penguin lists are so longlasting?

It's not "feedback", darlin', it's love. And wanting and enjoying love? is very very good.

Show me someone who a) doesn't want love or b) doesn't feel loved and I'll show you someone who is very troubled.

You struck a note with me, I just put a freebie counter on my blog just to see it rise. Let's just say it is still in single digits. :(

Ellie Hamilton said...

The catch with the counter is... the number of hits doesn't correspond with the number of comments, implying that a great number of people take a look and don't think it's worth commenting on....

Nancy -- I think the family kept the puppies.

Gosh everyone.... I feel better. Y'all are just like me.

nah, ellie, some people are just too shy to comment or don't feel what they have to say/add is worthwhile. it doesn't mean they don't care or aren't interested. i read lots of posts and don't comment on everyone. sometimes i'm just trying to catch up and my time is limited.

as for liking comments, like you I love the interaction and heh if I didn't like attention do you think I'd wear neon pink? lol.
